Supplier of fine wool Norwegian Knitting Yarns & Patterns from Rauma and Arnhild's Knitting Studio

I had a great time in Norway!  Thanks so much for your patience.  All of the orders have now gone out.

We had a private tour of the museum at Selbu, Norway. They have preserved many of the original mittens.

LVS 5: Selbustrikk contains the patterns for these mittens.

They make great small projects for summer knitting. You could have a basket full of gifts ready to wrap for the holidays!

Rauma 2-ply Gammelserie 100% wool yarn

The traditional Norwegian yarn for Selbu mittens. Spun to be as much like the original handspun yarns as possible from the wool of the Old Norwegian sheep of western Norway.

Rauma Yarns and Patterns from Norway

Denise's Needleworks Main Image 01Yarn
Fine wool yarns from sheep raised in the countryside of western Norway.  Excellent sheep pasture and a mild climate (that's right, it is not as cold as you may think) throughout the year make wool supple and gives it volume.  Wool is naturally warm, comfortable, environmentally friendly, renewable and durable.  Rauma has been producing fine quality yarns since the early 1930's.  Strikkegarn, Finullgarn and Gammelserie are the yarns used most in traditional Norwegian designs like Selbu mittens and Setesdal sweaters.

Arnhild grew up in Norway but came to the United States in 1986 when she married an Iowan.  Her daughter Oyvor is a graduate of Iowa State University.  They are both accomplished knitwear designers and collaborate on the translations of the Rauma patterns.  I have had the priviledge of working with Arnhild and learning about her business.  I am pleased to be able to offer all of her patterns and products for purchase online along with my own.
